Valentine's Day!

I couldn't wait for Valentine's Day this year. My track record with this day is pretty much a bust, so I was excited for one that couldn't really end badly :) Since the actual day was on a Sunday we decided to do our activities on Saturday, the 13th. We had talked about what we wanted to do, and Darren took the reins from there. He planned out pretty much everything. He left Saturday morning while I was getting ready, and came home with these!

A dozen pink roses, and a monstrous box of chocolates. He definitely knows my weakness... chocolate. Good news though, that box is still about 1/2 full.

After we put the flowers in water and I finished getting ready we headed out for the morning. I didn't know for sure what we were doing, but I had an idea. We have an AMC theater about 5 minutes away, and they do $5.00 movies before noon. We saw the early showing of Valentine's Day, and I thought it was pretty cute. I think Darren enjoyed it, but you'd have to ask him to be sure. On our way home we drove through In-N-Out for lunch and then headed back to our apartment. So far, it was a good day.

We had our weekly grocery shopping to do and such so we took a break from festivities and hung around the apartment and watched the Olympics for the rest of the afternoon. About 6 we got ready and left again, this time to Olive Garden for dinner! Darren surprised me with this as well, and I was thrilled since it's my favorite restaurant. We even snuck out a few breadsticks.

Sunday was equally as fun! We exchanged gifts and cards soon after we woke up, and then had a quiet morning at home before heading to church at 11. I taught nursery for the first time that day, so I was a bit nervous, but things ended up going well.

Darren got a silver necktie and Karate Kid, and I got a pearl necklace!

After church we had our nice, Valentine's dinner. We had pork chops, salad and garlic bread. We may have also had those breadsticks leftover from Olive Garden. We also planned on having mashed potatoes with it, but when we pulled out our potatoes they were growing things and smelled pretty bad, so we bagged that idea and will try those next time.

And a nice meal wouldn't be complete without dessert! I made a chocolate cake for us to have later that night. Please note those pink, white and red sprinkles on top. I didn't want to buy Valentine's sprinkles for just one cake, so I went through the thing of sprinkles we already had and picked out all of the red, white and pink ones with tweezers. OCD, I know, but it was fun and I think it turned out cute!

It was a great weekend and I am grateful to have someone so wonderful to call my valentine.
