All Snowed In

This is what we came home to Saturday about 11:30am. We left about 10:30 and it was raining. Guess things change quick here!

This was Sunday night from our patio:

Yesterday morning. And look at that lovely snow-covered California car. Poor Corolla...

So, we were supposed to leave yesterday morning for Northern Idaho to spend Thanksgiving with my dad's parents. Due to the weather we decided to wait a day or so, so we found some things to keep us busy in the house!

Check out our jars! Haha. At our ward's Super Saturday a few weeks ago we made the "Date Night"ones, but I took a set of the FHE strips to have for us as well. We'll have an FHE idea and a date idea for every week next year :)

We also finished a Christmas craft I've had the supplies for but hadn't gotten done yet.

We have a Christmas wreath now! I was so excited to get it put together and I like how it turned out. A big thanks to Darren for helping me. I didn't quite have enough hands to get it done myself!

So, back to this snow thing. We're currently under a BLIZZARD warning until 11pm tonight. It's not supposed to stop snowing until sometime tomorrow morning, so we've had to call off our trip to my grandparents. We were dissapointed, but felt much safer staying home. We'll have my brother and his wife down from Rexburg on Thursday, and hopefully things will be ok by then. (They just announced that I-15 is closed from Idaho Falls into Montana, so looks like we made a good choice!)

Anyways, maybe I'm crazy, but I'm excited to do Thanksgiving here! It was fun to go out last night with Darren and get a turkey and all the fixings for a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. My mom emailed me a Thanksgiving story from the Friend that we used to read every year. I remember just laughing and laughing with my brothers and sisters when we would read it. Our Apartment!

After much waiting, here is our lovely abode! We got unpacked SO much faster than we did in Turlock. Well, to be quite honest, we weren't even unpacked when we had to pack up again. I can honestly say we are completely settled in here in Idaho. I love our apartment and loved putting everything together. I can't wait to get it all decked out for Christmas later this week!!

We are loving Idaho, but wish we were closer to all of you. We are so excited to see Darren's family again in just a few short weeks!!

Halloween Town

Darren and I started our Halloween festivities on Friday. His school threw a Halloween Carnival so we decided to make a date night out of it and went. For $10 we got pizza, soda, dirt cups (the highlight of the night for Darren), went through a Spook Alley, and got cinnamon rolls we ate for breakfast the next morning.

It was fun to be out with Darren, and so hilarious to see how much his kids already love him. About half a dozen girls ran up to him and couldn't stop saying hi whenever they saw us throughout the night. The Spook Alley was hilarious, but still a little scary. For me. I freaked when someone grabbed my leg in a dark room, and didn't even go in the last room. We had a great time.

When Halloween arrived on Sunday, we were both excited. We had our night all planned out. We had homemade bread bowls with chili for dinner, and watched the Giants game.

After we cleaned up dinner, Darren carved up our pumpkin! I dutifully observed and took pictures.

After the game ended we dished up my family's traditional Ghost Cake. I grew up having this cake just about every year. I have no idea when my mom started making it, but it's a staple in my Halloween memories. I was so excited to make it for Darren this year.

Most of Idaho Falls trick-or-treated Saturday night, and we were out with Darren's parents, and we plum forgot to buy candy for trick-or-treaters, so we didn't get to see any cute kids all dressed up. We did have one stop by on Sunday, but since it was Sunday and we didn't have candy, I looked at them through the peep hole and didn't open the door. I felt so bad, but I didn't want to say "Sorry, no candy for you".

Our first Halloween together was pretty fun! Maybe next year we'll have a reason to dress up and give out candy :)

We Scored Big!

While we were in Turlock, Darren and I borrowed a table and chairs from my grandparents for our kitchen. When we moved here to Idaho I returned them, and we are now kitchen table & chair-less. We decided to start our hunt on Saturday, and started off at the Deseret Industries in town. We figured that we might be able to get lucky and find something inexpensive there. We were right! We found this table for just $15!

Yes, it needs some work, but it is in great condition besides the chipping paint, and Darren and I are looking forward to making it our own.

While at D.I. we came across this as well:

Darren sat in it and loved it. I looked at the price and loved it even more. I decided that I didn't want to sit in it because I'd want to get it, and we don't need it. Well, since you see a picture of it in our apartment you can guess that I eventually gave in. You would be correct. After we got the table Darren went back to our apartment to get some tools. We only had our 2-door Civic and had to take the table apart to get it home. I went and sat down in the rocker and it was a done deal. After all, I wasn't ever going to be able to find another glider rocker for only $10. That's right folks, this beauty only cost us $10!!!

We looked pretty funny disassembling a table and rocking chair in the parking lot, but I'm so glad we decided to get it (or rather I decided). I kinda bought it when Darren was gone, but he didn't object at all. Now I'm on a mission to find some cute fabric to recover the cushions. I would call our trip to D.I. extremely successful!
