Frying Pan Farm

Our ward Relief Society has started a twice monthly play group at various places around the area. One of the first ones they did, that we could go to, was last Friday at Frying Pan Farm. We got there before anyone else, so we walked around on our own, and then did it all again when our friends arrived.

Hayden has been learning his animal names and sounds, so this was a great time to do some practice!

The sheep ran away when I tried to take the photo...

A big thanks to Stephany for taking some photos that actually have me in them!

After our rounds with the animals, we let the kids play on some tractors they have out front. Hayden had a great time and would've stayed all day.

Dulles Day

Each summer Dulles Airport hosts "Dulles Day". They close down a runway and tons of people come out to see replica planes and watch crazy people participate in the "Plane Pull".

This was the first year we have gone, and it was really fun. Hayden is just getting into planes and helicopters so I thought he might like seeing everything up close.

We actually got to watch this helicopter take off and fly above us taking photos. We stood there for over 30 minutes waiting for it to take off, but it was worth it.

San Diego: Trish & Patrick's Sealing

Last weekend I had the opportunity to take a quick trip out to San Diego to be there for my sister and brother-in-law's sealing. A BIG thanks to my friend Mishay for watching Hayden Friday afternoon, and Darren for being a single dad for two days. It was such a great experience and I'm so glad I didn't miss it.

One of the best parts of the day, besides the sealing of course, happened right when we got to the temple. Trish asked me to be her escort, so I went in and found them in the waiting room while my dad parked the car. Right after I sat down one of the temple workers came over and asked if we were Rackhams. Right when I looked at her name tag, "Sister Fisher", I realized I knew her! She and her husband were in our ward in San Diego when my family lived there more than 20 years before. Her husband was even our bishop and they had a son my age.

It was really neat to run into her, and then we found out that she had been assigned to Trisha's sealing that day. She and her husband only work one Saturday a month, and out of all the weddings/sealings that day, she got Trisha's...I still get goosebumps when I think about it. Sister Fisher was able to find her husband and they both sat in during the ceremony. It was such a great experience. It's hard to really put how it felt into words...

Anyways! After the temple we took some photos outside. The camera my dad brought didn't have a data card inside, oops, so my aunt Meredith took a bunch of photos that we'll get later. Here are some that I took on my phone and that Trina took and sent to me!

Trish and Patrick had arranged a nice luncheon at a Mexican place in town. The food was SO good, and they even did a gender reveal cake for dessert. We were thrilled to find out they are having a BOY!!

After lunch Dad and I headed back to the hotel and got changed to go take a walk on the beach. The drive to the beach was absolutely hilarious. We met up with Trina, Kristin, Brooklyn, Kevin and Meredith at their hotel and they followed us down. Here's how a text conversation went:

Me: We're going to go West until we decide not to.
Trina: Ok. Thanks for the heads up!
Me: So, we took a wrong turn. Heading back the way we came.
Trina: Your father is the brunt of much ribbing right now :-)
Trina: We all miss him.
Trina: He's pretty cool.
Trina: Marine.
Trina: We thought he knew everything??
Me: He says he knows where he's going. Fuzzy 2 year old memory.
Trina: How much longer? How much longer? I'm hungry. Brooklyn touching me.
Trina: This is BORING.
Trina: How much longer.
Me: Do I need to come back there??
Trina: She's doing it - Not me!!!
Me: Just looking for a place to park.
Trina: We will follow you!
Trina: Nicely done!!!

So much fun. We found a place to sit and then Dad and I went on a walk down the beach until Trish and Patrick got there.

We stayed until the sun went down, and then Dad and I headed back to the hotel to sleep since we had an early flight the next morning. It was so nice to see everyone and spend time with Trish and Patrick on their special day!

August

August was a slow, but fun month for us. Darren headed back to work on the 20th, but we got to spend some good quality time together before he did. One of those times included Hayden needing chest x-rays and finding out he had pneumonia, but he got over it quickly and we're happy we caught it fast.

This summer was pretty mild, so it wasn't always warm enough to go to the pool. Hayden still wanted to play in the water, so we would sometimes give him afternoon baths. He loved them!

He also started to cut his four canine teeth and chewed holes a slew of pacifiers...

It warmed up near the end of the month, so we headed down the road to a splash pad a few times.

Other days were just lazy days watching a movie, or the ceiling fan...

A few days before school started we went and helped Darren put some finishing touches on his room. He was really happy with how it turned out!

And we did our fair share of baking yummy treats!
