Part 13: California Baby Shower

July 14, 2012

We flew out to Oakland on July 10, and were so excited to spend a couple weeks with Darren's family.

My sister-in-law Sheila and mother-in-law Sherry were kind enough to even throw us our first baby shower while we were there!

The shower had a Giants theme, since the Capells are the biggest Giants' fans :)

Such a cute invite!

The decorations included orange balloons and orange confetti...

A baseball diamond full of food...

 And tons of Giants' apparel!

We are blessed to have amazing friends and family that helped to get us ready for our baby!

I was so grateful for everyone's support, even those that couldn't make it that went out of their way to bring something over after. And a BIG shoutout to Sheila for hosting just 3 weeks before your delivery date! Thanks so much. It really meant alot :)

Part 12: 4th of July

July 4, 2012

We stayed down at my parents for another day after the baseball game so we could celebrate the 4th with them! We had a really relaxing day, probably went to the pool, and had a barbecue for dinner.

My brother, Justin, had to leave before it got too dark so we did our fireworks a little early. He took all the fireworks into the driveway and the younger kids got to sort through them and pick out which ones they wanted to be "theirs."

Still sorting...

When they were all done putting them into piles, we started setting them off!

We had a great 4th, except with the neighbors down the street decided to set off illegal mortar shell fireworks that scared us spitless. We ended up calling the cops, but we never saw them come. At least we called!

We headed back home the next day so we could get ready for our trip to California the next week. Summer started to just fly by!

Part 11: Nationals vs. Giants

July 3, 2012

Early into the baseball season Darren noticed that the Giants would be in town visiting the Nats over July 4th. He immediately wanted to go, especially when he realized they'd be doing fireworks after, and it was not hard to get my family in on it as well.

We headed down to the park in the early evening, so we could beat traffic and have plenty of time to find our seats.

Timmy Lincecum started for the Giants.

Jordan Zimmermann started for the Nats.

The presidents raced in the 4th inning...

We had a great time watching the game, even though it was super hot and muggy. I had to get some ice chips to suck on because I was overheating to the extreme and my water wouldn't stay cold.

Darren wore his Giants garb, and I wore my Nats hat. A family divided.

I can't remember what inning, but probably about halfway though the game rain started coming down like crazy and they called the teams off the field. It was a bummer, but we hoped it wouldn't last long.

After a while, they put this message up on the jumbo screen:

Uh, duh.

We stayed for a little over an hour and then my parents decided it was time to go. Darren was really bummed since he really wanted to see the fireworks. We did get to see this cool view of the moon though:

We made almost all the way home before the game started again and got to watch the rest in air-conditioned comfort. I think the Nats ended up winning, but it was fun to be at a game. Hopefully we'll have better luck next year!

Part 10: Preggo Brain Moments

So, towards the end of my second trimester I started to notice some "Pregnancy Brain/Hormone" moments...

Story #1

One Saturday, probably in early June, Darren and I were at Walmart doing our grocery shopping and I was dying to get some nectarines (one of the few cravings I've had has been for fresh fruit). I had seen them a few weeks earlier and knew they were about to be in season so they'd probably be super delicious.

I picked a few out, four to be exact, and we went about our shopping and then checked out. As the cashier was ringing all of our groceries up I noticed that the nectarines rang up at $9.96 ($2.49 each). What?! $10 for four nectarines?! I was shocked and had to turn my head because I started to cry. (Seriously, who cries about fruit?!) I wanted those so bad, but I wasn't about to pay that much for them, so I told the lady we didn't want them (after arguing with her and trying to convince her the price was wrong).

I wasn't about to give up though. I had Darren go talk to the customer service manager, because I was pretty positive they were supposed to be $2.49/lb, not each. The manager was super nice and said he knew about the issue and had been trying to get the store to fix it. He went back to the register we were at, grabbed our bag of nectarines, and rang them up for us a the correct price. Again, I started to cry. I stood there and thought, "Why am I crying?!" Darren kinda laughed at me a little and told me it was probably my hormones goin' crazy.

I must say, those were some of the best nectarines I'd ever cried over :)

Story #2 - June 23, 2012

The following postcard came in the mail:

I was totally confused. Why, you may ask? Well, the top line says "A gift from Deborah Rackham". I looked at it and thought, "When did I send a gift to myself? And how in the world did I send it to my married self, but from my unmarried self?" I seriously looked at it for a few minutes trying to figure it out. I was somehow convinced I had sent it to myself from the past.

I know. That makes NO sense. I read the rest of the card and soon felt really stupid. As I was reading I realized it was a gift subscription to a magazine that my mom likes. Yes. My mom. Who also happens to be named Deborah Rackham. Duh! She sent it to me.

The only thing I can figure is that I'm used to hearing her called Debbie, not Deborah. That's usually me.

Hope that makes your day :)

Part 9: June Happenings

June 2012

June seemed to go by quickly! After our ultrasound the first week, Darren still had students for a few days, and then work days until the 12th.

We were able to go see my brother Dallin compete in a big time swim meet a few days after my birthday, and then did a lot of relaxing!

21 1/2 weeks, June 17

We did make it to the temple though! We were too late/slow for a session, so we did some sealings. I guess I was looking a little pale towards the end and got the sealer worried so he stopped the session and had us go. Whoops!

June 22

By the end of June we were ready and excited for the 4th of July and our trip to California!

Part 8: Rascal Flatts Concert!

June 23, 2012

We had the opportunity to catch Rascal Flatts in June, thanks to my mom! We met up with her and my sister, Sarah, out at Jiffy Lube Live Amphitheater for a great night of music.

They were joined by Eden's Edge, The Eli Young Band, and Little Big Town.

It was a bit toasty as we waited for the concert to start, but when the sun finally went down it was great concert weather.

Rascal Flatts was amazing! I loved every minute of it. I think Darren enjoyed it too, but he didn't know as many of the songs so he just sat next to me most of the evening.

At the very end they had all the opening acts join them on stage for a song. Can't remember which one, but it was fun to see everyone at once.

It took us WAY too long to get out of the parking lot, but it was a really fun night. Thanks mom!

Part 7: 20 week ultrasound

June 6, 2012

During Darren's last week of school we got to have our 20 week ultrasound to find out the gender of our bundle of joy!

I was actually really nervous going into this ultrasound. I wanted everything to look perfect and have no surprises.

Darren and I were split on what the baby would be, but we knew one of us would be right!

And Darren won!

I wasn't too sure about posting this picture, but Darren wanted me to...guess he's a proud papa!

During most of the ultrasound he had his hands up by his face and tried repeatedly to get one of them into his mouth...

Everything ended up looking pretty good. During one scan his renal pelvis was measured to be a little too big, but apparently that's fairly common with boys and should resolve itself. (I guess it could've been measuring big due to a full bladder...). My midwives weren't worried about it, so they didn't even have me go back in for another scan. They said they'll have his pediatrician check it out when he's born and go from there. There's nothing they can do before he's born anyway.

It was fun to see our little guy for a third time and get started on name ideas! Which, by the way we will be keeping under wraps until he's born. We've got it narrowed down to two, but haven't decided on one for sure.
