Darren's Birthday Celebrations!

Darren was pretty excited for his birthday this year, as I was VERY good at keeping most of his gifts a secret, even though I bought them in early November. We knew that we would be driving all day on his birthday, so we celebrated a little on the 15th. I went and surprised him at school with a cupcake and then stayed for the school's Christmas Concert. We went to his staff party for dinner that night, and then he got to open a present before we went to bed that night. He was thrilled!

He saved the rest of them until the morning of the 16th, but we were getting up pretty early so that wasn't too hard to do.

My birthday in June seemed to have a Giants theme to it, so I decided to keep that theme for Darren's gifts as well. Easy, since they'd won the World Series in November and Giants stuff was everywhere!

Unfortunately, two of his gifts didn't arrive in time, so I printed out I.O.U.'s with pictures of the coming gifts.

A year subscription to ESPN magazine (I was stoked about this since it only cost me $3!)

He also got a Giants' hat (which he picked out himself). I was so excited to give him everything, and was thrilled when he loved it all.

The rest of his big day was spent in the car on our way from Idaho Falls to his parents' house in California for Christmas. We got breakfast on our way out (his choice) and enjoyed a great day of Christmas music and conversation on the 13 hour trip.

When we got into Salida (probably about 9 or 10 if I remember right) his mom made him some brownies and put candles in them so he had something to blow out.

His first cake

A few days later Darren's parents had more family over and we had another celebration that day.

Overall, I think he had a great day and loved all of the gifts and phone calls he received. Thanks to all who remembered him on his special day!
