We were about 15 minutes from our hotel when Darren got pulled over by a state trooper. So not my favorite moment, but he was REALLY nice and let us off with a warning. Seriously, so grateful!
I felt a bit better once we got to our hotel and met up with the rest of my family, but the next few days were not fun for me or Darren. The highlight was that we now had my parents to entertain Hayden while we slept, and slept, and slept. Thank you!!!
We did as many things on the reunion agenda as we could, but definitely didn't hit all of them. The first thing we did was a parade in Sanford. The parade went down the street, turned around, and came back. If you missed something the first time, you got to see it again!
My grandma volunteers at this museum every summer, so we all got to take a little tour and look at everything she has been working on.
My great-grandfather
My grandfather
My dad and brother
My grandma!
After looking at everything in the museum we headed back to the hotel. We had some lunch and took a nap. We then had to head back down to Sanford for family pictures by the museum.
The Rackham men
This is seriously one of my favorite pictures. I was looking at one of the exhibits and turned around to see Hayden being helped onto the bike by my grandpa. So glad I got a photo...
As we were on our way down the road back to the hotel, I noticed that Darren was going over the speed limit and gently reminded him that it was a 25, not a 45. Just then, a county sherrif whipped around and turned his lights on. Yup, pulled over again...This time I couldn't help but laugh. We were in a caravan, so my parents and sister passed us and just stared. Who gets pulled over two days in a row?! We definitely figured we'd get a ticket this time, so I was really just hoping it wouldn't be too expensive. Well, someone must have been looking out for us because Darren got off with a warning. Again. What in the world?! Who gets that lucky?! He drove the speed limit the rest of the time we were in Colorado :)
Hayden's morning breakfast routine. Eat while watching Disney Channel.
One of the nights we had a big dinner with extra extended family, to celebrate my grandpa's 80th birthday. My aunt Jenny had these awesome cookies made, as well as the cake below. Dinner was SO good, I was just super scared of eating too much and didn't have very much. I wish I could go back and have more!
My mom trying to keep Hayden entertained....
My aunt put this really neat display together at the back of the dining room.
The day after the birthday celebration I was feeling much better, so I decided to take Hayden and go downtown and walk with my family. It was really neat to see so many old versions of modern stores.
You can bet we came back here and got some cookies. My dad's version is better though...
Sunday was our last day with family, since most everyone was flying out Monday early morning. Darren and I hadn't had the opportunity to take Hayden to the waterpark that was in the hotel. He had gone with my mom and brother once or twice, but we had been too sick to take him on our own. I was really bummed about this, so we took him Sunday after church and after his nap. He loves the water, so he had a blast. And it was super warm!
We had one last family dinner Sunday night at a really nice Italian place in town. I was definitely suffering from lack of sleep and energy from being sick, and it manifested itself when I had a meltdown because the spaghetti sauce was spiced a little strongly and Hayden wouldn't eat it. They brought him some plain noodles (thanks Rochelle for the suggestion!) and the world was good again.
Overall it was a really fun time, but I wish we would have been feeling more ourselves. We missed a great "Fun Run" and Monster Truck show, or something like that. Maybe next time!!
Monday morning we took our time getting up and packing, then had breakfast at the hotel, drank the rest of our bottle of Pepto, and hit the road. There must have been something in the air at the hotel, or we were just super stressed there, because we left our tummy troubles there and had no problems the rest of our way home.
Our legs were itching to be moving, so we took a little detour on our way to Denver and drove through Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. I had been there years before, but it was really cool to see again.
I'm so glad the McDonald's we stopped at had a toddler play are. Hayden definitely needed to run around!
We had an evening flight, so we didn't land in Dulles until after midnight. We didn't pay for a seat for Hayden on this flight, but there were plenty of extra seats so he ended up with one for free! So grateful for that, because it pretty much would have been a disaster since he didn't sleep at all on the drive up, and fell asleep right when we were landing....oh the joys of travelling with a small child...
It was a great vacation, and we had so much fun seeing family and friends. After such a long trip, we were definitely glad to be home and ready to sleep in our own beds.
