Spring Break!!

Spring Break is here! My district is off this week, and lucky Darren has the next TWO weeks off. We are so excited to have more time at home and together. We don't have major plans for the week, but we are excited to head down to Salt Lake on Thursday to go to Darren's mission reunion Friday night, go to Conference and hang out with some family.

One thing we were not excited about this morning was to find this outside:

I'm guessing someone didn't get the Spring Break memo...

Date Night In

Last night we had plans to head up to Rexburg, meet up with some of Darren's old roommates, go out to dinner and see this:

In early February we heard that BYU-Idaho would be hosting a production of Savior of the World (we both had the opportunity to see it in Turlock a few years ago and loved it) so we/I jumped at the opportunity to get tickets. We had our night all planned out and we were both excited to go OUT! 

Thursday night I started feeling like I was getting a cold, but I didn't feel too bad so I figured I'd be fine. Yesterday morning I was still ok, but as the day went on I started feeling feverish and stayed on the couch all day. When Darren came home from school I realized I needed to start getting ready, but that just didn't happen. Being the great husband he is, Darren quickly told me we didn't have to go and helped me back into bed.

I was so upset, since we'd planned this for a while, but I knew I just wouldn't enjoy it as much as I should. Darren was quick to come up with another plan. He went and picked up a pizza for dinner and then got this

from the DVD rental kiosk in our complex. It takes a great husband to know his wife will want a chick flick when she's sick. The movie was ok, the food was great, but the company was the best. It ended up being a great night despite our sudden change of plans. Guess there's something to be said about keeping it simple.

For Christmas we got this wonderful game from my brother!

We got it out a few weeks ago and played and loved every minute of it, until it came time for Darren to make an "Accusation". He did, and quickly found out that he was wrong and got quite upset at me. He said, "If you have the card, you have to show me!" I responded, "I did!!" He was pretty positive that the crime took place in the "Kitchen", but it turns out that we don't have the "Kitchen" card! Somehow it was left out of our game. I was pretty bummed, but knew I could probably just email them and get it taken care of.

I did just that and got this return email:

       you, at the address you provided, a different product of equal

       value."

I thought, "okay...I guess they'll just send us a "Kitchen" card from an older/newer version of the game." That would make sense right?!

Well, their definition of a "different product of equal value" just arrived and is this:

Somehow, I don't think this will help us play our game of "Clue"...

Reflections of Christ

We had a great President's Day yesterday! Darren and I were determined to not spend the whole day inside, so went out about 3:30 in the afternoon to go see this exhibit at the Idaho Falls Visitors Center:

It was absolutely amazing! We had a chance over Christmas to see some of the photographs when we went to the Oakland Visitors Center, but we were excited to see all of them this time.

I would mention which ones were my favorites, but that would probably be all 26! There was such a strong spirit in each image, and I wish I could have them all hanging in my home. If I had to pick one, it would be the one at the top of the image above. Something about it is just so powerful to me.

I hope each of you have an opportunity to see this exhibit sometime. It will be worth it!

It's Freezing Here!

Since it's SO stinkin' cold here in Idaho Falls, Darren and I have a hard time finding things to do on the weekend that take us out of our apartment. This past weekend we decided that it was time that we went and did a session at the Idaho Falls temple. Sadly, we hadn't done a session since August. It was so nice to be in the temple, and I sure hope we can make it more often, especially since it's only 15 minutes away!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Darren and I decided to do Valentine's as cheap as possible this year. And by cheap, we meant free, since we're pretty poor these days.

We started our festivities last night with Sunday dinner:

We had yummy steaks, potato wedges, corn and Strawberry Kiwi juice. Yes, it doesn't sound like steak is a "cheap" meal, but it was FREE for us! And we loved every morsel of it. (Darren received a gift certificate to a butcher shop in Shelley as part of his Christmas bonus and we jumped at the chance to use it!)

It was so fun to have a really nice meal together and start our Valentine's day.

We both slept in this morning, and Darren got up a little before I did and surprised me with these!

I was so surprised! We decided to make eachother homemade valentines this year, and we went out and got "supplies" Saturday night. Those supplies happened to be handfuls of paint samples from Walmart :) They're free, and they come in a variety of Valentinesy colors!

I guess he made these while I was at Ward Council yesterday. It was so sweet to get "flowers" as I was waking up on Valentine's Day.

After putting my flowers in a vase I made Darren a special breakfast. I didn't really have any way to make heart shaped pancakes (which was my first choice), so I decided to make french toast, and use a cookie cutter to make it heart shaped.

It was really fun to surprise him and so something special before he headed off  to school.

While he was gone I worked on my cards:

 

They aren't nearly as creative as the card Darren ended up making me, but they worked and got my point across :)

We finished off the night with dinner at Olive Garden (thanks mom and dad for the gift card!) and then dessert on the couch while watching The Bachelor.

It was so fun to try to surprise eachother and I actually liked that we didn't buy gifts. I think it made today a Valentine's we won't soon forget.
