11 Months

It's hard to believe that our little guy will be one in just four short weeks. The year is flying by...

New this month: There is so much! First off, Hayden waves!! I've been waiting and waiting for this to come, and he apparently was just going to do it when he was ready. It is so cute. He pretty much waves to himself (his hand is turned around), but we count it. He's also clapping! I love how excited he gets when we say "yay!" and he claps along with us. It's like he knows he's just done something pretty impressive.

He's got two top teeth now! His first one came in at the end of the month, and his second one two weeks later. Hopefully that will be it for a while, since it seems like this poor kid is always teething. We could sure use a break.

Hayden has found the Tupperware cupboard in the kitchen. I actually don't mind this, since our doctor recommended keeping it unlocked for this purpose. He loves to pull the bowls and cups out and spread them all over the floor. One mess that is easy to clean up...

He's also started to crawl over the bookshelf in the living room and pull out his books and sit and just flip through them. I know when it's quiet that something is afoot, and usually he's just sitting quietly looking through a book. I know someday that quiet won't be so good, so I'm grateful it's not dangerous right now.

Now that Darren is back to work we haven't had many outings, but we did go visit a brand new splash pad down the street. There are about a dozen fountains that randomly go on and off. The first time I took him there were a ton of kids, so I just held him in them and we didn't stay long. We went back with Grandpa just recently and I let him crawl around. He seemed to enjoy splashing in the water remnants left on the ground, but didn't quite know what to think when he happened to crawl over a fountain that was off, only to have it come right back on in his face. He is sure at a fun stage!

Nats vs. Giants, August 14th

Summer wouldn't be complete with out going to a Nationals game! The Giants came into town a few days ago so we headed into the city with my mom and Dallin. Grandpa watched Hayden for the first time by himself, and he did great!

Cal Ripken caught the first pitch.

Darren was thrilled with the outcome, because the Giants won!!

We love going to Nats games, and hope we can do it more in the future.

10 Months

We've entered double digits! Things are beginning to become a blur as we have a mobile child on our hands now. With summer winding down, we've been spending the majority of our time at the pool, soaking up the rays and keeping cool. We've also discovered a new family favorite ice cream shop, Sweet Frog, within walking distance. Unfortunately, Hayden is not old enough to enjoy it as much as we do.

The big news of the last month is that Hayden got to spend the night at Grandma and Grandpa's house, without us! They were kind enough to volunteer to take him so Darren and I could take a night away and go to Virginia Beach. It was soooo hard to be away from him, but I did good and only called a couple times.

New this month: Hayden has figured out how to crawl between the couch and rocking chair in our living room and then crawl right behind the chair to our shelves of dvds. He seems completely proud of himself when he sees us find him, and gets faster and faster each day.

He's still in size 3 diapers, and doesn't look to be growing out of those anytime soon, as well as his 6-9 month clothes. Good thing it's warm, because he's got plenty of baseball onesies to go through before the season ends.

Virginia Beach Trip, August 7-8

We had our first night away from Hayden this week! My mom asked us if we wanted her to watch him for a night, and we could go away or do something fun. Darren hadn't been to the beach yet, so we booked a room in Virginia Beach and had a great time.

We went straight to the beach when we got into town and spent all afternoon there.

The next day we got up and went on a wall down the boardwalk. It was so nice to be alone, and spend some quality time together.
