Happy 1/2 Birthday...Hayden is 6 months old!

I can't believe Hayden's 6 months old! The time seems to have flown by. He had his doctor's appointment today and weighed in at 16 pounds 5 ounces, and is 25 inches long. His doctor said he's right on his growth curves and looks great!

New this month: He can roll over both ways! I tried and tried to get him to do this, and then when he finally did I wished I hadn't pushed him to do it. Now he won't lay still! Diaper changes haven't suffered too much, but trying to lotion and dress him after his bath has. He also eats solids now! So far he loves his baby oatmeal. He knows what's coming when we put him in his Bumbo seat and I can't seem to get it to him fast enough. He gets it twice a day so far, and we'll probably be adding lunch time soon. We tried him on carrots and peas for a few days a few weeks ago, but he wasn't too crazy about those so we decided we'd wait until after his doctor's appointment. They'll be making another appearance soon...

Also new this month, Hayden is now a good napper! I have no idea what changed, but he's consistently taking long naps now. Some days they'll both be two and a half hours! Most days that's not the case, but I'm loving the time to get things done. And shower with no one in the bathroom but me!

He still loves to jump. Over spring break he figured out my parents' door way jumper, so when we got back after Easter we bought one of our own. We don't really have a doorway that would work, so we got him an stationary activity center that is also a jumper. He loves to play in it and often leans back in the seat while he plays with the toys. Silly boy.

He is still in 3-6 month clothes and size 2 diapers. It doesn't look like he'll be growing out of these for a little bit, and I'm totally fine with that. All he has in 6-9 months are Giants and Nationals onesies...I think we need to go shopping!

He has started to bust out of his swaddling, regardless of how we do it, so that's going to be coming to an end soon. Hopefully it won't be too traumatic of an experience. Please pray for us...

What a way to kick off Spring Break.

5 Months

Hayden is now a wiggly, squirmy 5 month old. He is still getting to know the "Sleeping Through the Night" fairy, but he's done better the past week. We had him drinking oatmeal enriched bottles, and he conked out for at least 10 hours each night, but it didn't really seem to help his reflux so we took him off. And now we're paying the price for it with our sleep. 

New this month: He has found his feet!! It is so cute to watch him grab them. He mostly does it during diaper changes (when his feet are bare), which tends to make that time very interesting. He hasn't figured out how to get them to his mouth yet, but I'm sure that's close. He is almost rolling over to his stomach as well. He'll usually get his bottom half rolled over, and then his face, but his left arm seems to get in the way still. 

He is still a refluxy boy. The oatmeal seemed to make his spit up thicker and messier, so we're back to regular old soy. We have tried him on oatmeal by itself, from a spoon, but he doesn't seem to keen on that yet. We're trying again next week though, whether he likes it or not. 

He loves to jump, but he hasn't quite figured out how to do it on his own. My parents have a jumper that we've put him in on occasion, but he just hangs there looking around. A sure-fire way to get a giggle out of him is to hold him and jump him up and down on your lap. Makes for some strong arm muscles...

He is completely in 3-6 month clothes, as well as size 2 diapers. I happened to get a bunch on clearance from Target, so he'll be wearing those bad boys for a long time. Even if they start to get too small.

Since he has become such an active little baby, taking his picture was an extreme mission last week. The shot above is pretty much the only one we got with everything the way I wanted it. The others are so cute though, so I've decided to put some of my favorites here at the end. Enjoy!

St. Paddy's Day

This year I tried to do a little more for St. Patrick's Day, in an effort to make our home more "homey" and to make things cute around here.

The first thing I decided to do was to make this cute wreath for our front door!

I found the idea on Pinterest, and it was so easy to do. I may make a few more for other seasons.

The second thing I decided to do was make a decorative charger for our entry way side table. I've been wanting to do some of these for a long time, so I finally got to it and love how it turned out!

In an effort to also become more social and involved in our ward we made a special green dessert and invited an almost married couple from our ward over for cake and mint chocolate chip ice cream.

I think it turned out pretty cute! Maybe it will be come part of a new St. Paddy's day tradition for the Capell family.

Tie Draft 2012

In October, one of the other teachers at my school, sent out an invitation to all of the teachers to join in on the Second Annual Tie Draft.  This year was my first in participating in the Tie Draft.  

They ordered a set of 100 ties through E-bay, then we all got together after school one day and drafted our ties. Before the draft they sent out, to everyone participating, a list of all the ties you could chose from.  I ranked the ties and color coordinated them.  

My top 20 were the ties on the blue sheet, then green, orange, pink, and yellow.  

There were 11 of us participating in the draft, and I got the number one pick!  I was super excited to get the number one pick and get the best tie in the bunch.  All seven of my ties ended up being in my top 21 and cost $25.00 total.  A lot of the other guys were going for all the ugly paisley ties.

Unfortunately I didn't end up getting my number one selection.  The person who was selling the ties apparently ran out of that one and sent a replacement, and with out asking the buyer what he would like.  So, my number one pick didn't turn out to be so awesome.
